The sporting dog group is a group of purebread dogs that are recognized by the AKC. Generally, a gun dog is active, loyal, friendly, good with children and other dogs, very affectionate, love to be with their family. They are energetic and love to play in the water.
Some sporting dogs are hyper, such as, the Brittany Spaniel, and some have a more placid personality, such as the Golden Retreiver.
Before choosing, a sporting dog or gun dog you should be aware of a few items. First of all, many of these dogs have a strong prey instinct. So, they can be incompatible with small animals, such as, a cat. Generally, if a gun or sporting dog is in the right enviroment, this means no apartments, they make great family pets.
