House Training Your Dog In Four Easy Steps
Housebreaking a dog is almost always done wrong. However, If you use common sense your dog can be potty trained with ease. All animals have a natural instinct to avoid soiling where they sleep and eat. Brand new puppies may not get it right away, but it doesn’t take long for them to realize that they do not want to urinate or poop where they live and play.
Here are a few housebreaking tips that will help get your puppy on his or her way to being properly housebroken:
1. When waking up in the morning, avoid praising or greeting your dog until he has done his deed. This will develop into a routine and once he realizes that he gets a lot of attention and praise, after he uses the bathroom, he will then be want to use the bathroom so he can get praise from you.
2. When you start to train your puppy and wherever you want him to use the bathroom stick to using just one command each time you lead him to his bathroom. For example, I use the words “Run Time”.
3. Use this same path every single time you take, your dog, to use the bathroom. This will helps create a pattern so that your pet understands that it is time to go to the bathroom when you are walking him by the same route.
4. You need to use a lot of praise and loving caresses when your puppy properly uses the bathroom. You must associate housebreaking with a positive experience. Shower him with love, attention, and doggie treats.
